Why We Dance: Film Screening and Community Dance Event
See a Movie and Stay to Dance!
Monday, October 27, 2025
See the PEI premiere of this remarkable film diary from a web-based dance class of mostly women from their 40s to their 80s who come together during the Pandemic for comfort and stay together for joy.

Join us at the Charlottetown Library Auditorium for the PEI premiere of this joyful documentary. Meet the filmmaker, Michal Goldman, and stay for a fun community dance lead by Reequal Smith of Oshun Dance Studio. All are welcome - no dance experience necessary.
“Why We Dance” (42 minutes; released 2025) is about women dancing, confronting body image, seeking renewed community and relevance, becoming grandmothers. The context: an online dance class during the Pandemic. The charismatic and compassionate teacher, Ketty Rosenfeld, is an Indonesian immigrant married to an American. She welcomes all comers, and many of the dancers are also immigrants. As friends invite friends, a virtual community of women from all over the country forms around this teacher. The dancers gain resilience and discover joy. This is a micro-budget project, filmed by the dancers themselves.
