Building a Feminist Coalition for Basic Income Guarantee
Women’s Network PEI launches two-year initiative to highlight the benefits of Basic Income Guarantee across Canada
Women's Network PEI is part of a groundbreaking two-year project, 'Building a Feminist Coalition for Basic Income Guarantee,' funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada.
This initiative aims to drive meaningful change by advocating for Basic Income Guarantee (BIG) as a solution to income inequality, poverty, and the creation of a more inclusive, equitable society.
As the cost of living rises, many individuals in PEI and across Canada are struggling to make ends meet, with women and gender-diverse people disproportionately affected. These groups are often overrepresented in low-income brackets, underscoring the urgent need for systemic change.
The project will engage communities, raise public awareness, and mobilize a coalition of feminist and social justice organizations committed to advancing Basic Income Guarantee for PEI and Canada.
A key component of this work was the ACT BIG Conference (Advocating Canada Toward Basic Income Guarantee), which took place in Charlottetown on June 5–6, 2025. The event brought together non-profit organizations, advocates, community members, and policymakers to explore the transformative potential of BIG for individuals and communities.
