In 2003, Women's Network PEI and East Prince Women's Information Center (EPWIC) worked in partnership with the East Prince Women's Health and Wellness Committee, to develop a strategic plan that would help the group move forward in addressing the health and wellness issues of women in East Prince. Health Canada provided funding for the project through the Population and Public Health Branch, Atlantic Region. Throughout the duration of the project, committee members worked to strengthen partnerships among groups working toward the goal by meeting together and reaching out to other potential partners. Julie Devon Dodd facilitated two workshops for committee members, one in June 2003 and one in October 2003, to develop skills, capacity and understanding to influence the public policy process as it relates to women's health and wellness in East Prince. Project coordinator Margaret Prouse shaped decisions made at the workshop into a strategic plan for the committee. After considering the current situation, the needs of the community, and the resources at hand, committee members established three goals for the two-year period of 2004– 2006: • to educate the public about women's health and wellness needs in East Prince; • to establish a strong community voice to advocate for the health and wellness needs of East Prince women; and • to establish a permanent women's clinic in East Prince. Since the October workshop, committee member Patricia Roy has initiated a series of articles for the Journal-Pioneer about the health and wellness needs of women in East Prince, as a first step in the public education process. The Strategic Plan developed through this project is posted on this website. Click Here to see the plan.
