Women's Network PEI, as part of WGLI, helps make the case for Basic Income Guarantee

Wednesday, January 31, 2024

Economists and researchers, public servants, politicians, and advocates from Prince Edward Island and across the country have collaborated to design a feasible and progressive guaranteed basic income program for our province.

Women’s Network PEI is an active member of the PEI Working Group for a Livable Income (WGLI).

The Working Group has been advocating for Basic Income Guarantee in PEI for more than two decades.

Collaborating nationwide, the Coalition Canada for Basic Income works alongside PEI's Working Group for a Livable Income and other stakeholders. Together, we aim to formulate a costed model for Basic Income Guarantee in Canada, with PEI taking the lead in its implementation. This proposal offers an overview of the potential workings of a National Basic Income Guarantee program in Canada, addresses its funding mechanisms, and examines its impact on existing social programs and services.
