Summary of the Project

Women´s Network PEI is a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1984. Women´s Network PEI works to strengthen and support the efforts of PEI women to improve the status of women in our society. The East Prince Women´s Information Centre is a not-for-profit referral and support organization for women and children in East Prince, incorporated in 1985.

“East Prince Health: Women’s Health and Wellness Needs Assessment”, “PEI Well Women’s Clinics: A Case Study of Gender Specific Clinic to Increasing Screenings Rates”, and “PEI Pap Screening Program 2001 Report”, as well as,“Sexual and Reproductive Health for Youth: Best Practices” and our youth consultation, “Let’s Talk... About Sexual and Reproductive Health” all have recommendations focused on the need for capacity building and policy towards the delivery of women’s health services on PEI.

The goal of this initiative is to address the health and wellness issues of women in East Prince by working with partners to develop a strategic policy framework. The objectives of the initiative are:

a. to develop and strengthen partnerships with community organizations and government in order to address policy issues related to women´s health and wellness in East Prince,

b. to host a two day workshop with the partners to develop skills, capacity and understanding to influence the public policy process related to women women´s health and wellness in East Prince, and

c. to use the proceedings from the workshop to develop a strategic plan to move the public policy process forward in East Prince.

This project will meet the priorities of the Population Health Fund by:

1. enhancing the skills and capacity of community organizations to engage in and influence healthy public policy,

2. developing collaborative relationships between community groups and the government for policy development, and

3. strengthening networks that enhance our capacity to influence policy development.
