Women’s Network PEI began to address the issue of youth sexual health after the Environmental Scan of Sexual & Reproductive Health in Atlantic Provinces was published by Health Canada in 1999. This report states:

  • PEI has the least sexual health services in the Atlantic Provinces
  • Youth is the critical population group in the area of sexual health
  • Critical issues youth are facing are unplanned, pregnancy, sexuality transmitted infections (STIs) and sexual violence.

The Caucus was formed in 2000 and continues to support and advise on the Youth Sexual Health projects being done by the Women’s Network PEI.

Mission: The Prince Edward Island Caucus on Youth Sexual Health is comprised of youth, parents, community and government representatives working to promote healthy sexuality through partnerships, community capacity building and public policy changes.

Guiding Belief: We the Prince Edward Island Caucus on Youth Sexual Health believe that healthy sexuality is a key component of overall health and wellness, beginning at birth and continuing through the life cycle.

Vision: The vision of the Prince Edward Island Caucus on Youth Sexual is that the people of this Province will support policies that increase education, programs, services and resources that promote and improve conditions which would foster healthy sexuality for youth.
